Walgreens Store Guide

Walgreens Corporate Coupon Policy
Walgreens has a TON of rules and guidelines regarding how to use coupons, so I strongly suggest you get educated on their coupon policy before heading into the store to shop. You can access the Walgreens Corporate Coupon Policy by clicking here. I also recommend printing out their coupon policy and bringing it with you when you shop at Walgreens, just in case you come across any issues at the register.

Balance Rewards Points Program
If you haven't already, you should sign up for a free Balance Rewards account in store or online here. Once you sign up, you will receive a Balance Rewards card. You will need this card to score all of the advertised sales and promotions. Also, you can earn points when you buy qualifying items which can then be redeemed on a future purchase. I recommend downloading the free Walgreens App so that you can easily keep track of your Balance Rewards Points. You can also keep track of your points by simply signing into your account online.

Earning Points
Balance Rewards members can earn points with the purchase of specified products during specified promotional periods. Online purchases will earn points as if purchased in store. Members can also earn points for making healthy choices, such as getting immunizations or participating in Walk with Walgreens. Go here for more details.

Redeeming Points
Balance Rewards Points will be redeemed in the form of redemption dollars. Depending on how many points you have accumulated, redemption dollars will vary. Below is a chart that shows how many points you can redeem and how much they are worth:

When you choose to redeem your points, they will be converted into redemption dollars to be used on your purchase. Redemption dollars cannot be paid out in cash or store credit. Keep in mind that points will not be earned in a transaction where points are being redeemed. Another important thing to keep in mind is that points expire. If you do not earn or redeem points for 6 consecutive months, your membership will be deemed inactive and your points will be forfeited. If you are an active member, regularly earning and/or redeeming points, all Balance Rewards Points will expire on a 36 month basis.

Register Rewards

Another way to save at Walgreens, is their Register Rewards. Register Rewards, as pictured below, are manufacturer coupons that are in the form of a Catalina coupon. These Register Rewards print out of the Catalina machine at the register after you have completed your transaction. These Catalinas print out after you buy a participating product, which may or may not be advertised in the Walgreens weekly ad. Keep in mind that some Register Reward deals are not advertised in the weekly ad.

Register Rewards are manufacturer coupons. You can only use one Register Reward per item purchased. Therefore, you CANNOT use a manufacturer coupon in conjunction with the Register Reward, as these are considered manufacturer coupons. You CAN, however, use a Walgreens store coupon in conjunction with a Register Reward. If you want to use a Register Reward on items that you have a manufacturer coupon for, you will have to find a "filler item" to buy in that transaction. A filler item is a clearance or inexpensive item that you do not have a coupon for. You add this filler item to your transaction, that way, you can use your Register Reward.

Unlike Balance Rewards Points, you can earn Register Rewards in a transaction that you are redeeming Register Rewards. You can also earn Balance Rewards Points in a transaction that you use a Register Reward in. However, you cannot roll your Register Rewards on the same item(s) that you earned them on. For example, let's say you earned a $2 RR for purchasing Colgate toothpaste. You cannot buy another tube of Colgate toothpaste and use that Register Reward and still earn another $2 RR.

Walgreens Coupons

  • Weekly Ad: You can find Walgreens store coupons in their weekly ads.
  • Monthly Savings Booklet: One of the most popular ways that you can score Walgreens coupons is in their Monthly Savings Booklets found in front of the store, near the weekly ad.
  • Walgreens Coupon Booklets: Another way to score Walgreens coupons is by looking through the aisles and snatching up their coupon booklets. They have several of these booklets around the store, usually near the items that they relate to. For example, you can find the Walgreens Cold & Flu Coupon Booklet in the aisle where there is cold and flu medicine.
  • Coupons.com: You can occasionally find Walgreens coupons on Coupons.com.
  • Walgreens App: If you download the Walgreens App, you can clip Walgreens coupons to your account. All you have to do is have the cashier scan your card and the coupon will be deducted.

How to Shop + Save at Walgreens

  • You are allowed to use one manufacturer coupon/ Register Reward per item purchased. As mentioned, Register Rewards are manufacturer coupons.
  • You can use multiple Walgreens coupons on a single item. For example, you can use a coupon from the Walgreen Monthly Savings Booklet and a Walgreens coupon from the weekly ad on the same item, as long as those coupons are for that particular item.
  • You only need to scan 1 Walgreens store coupon even when you are purchasing multiples of the same item. The coupon will automatically deduct the amount off of each item that you buy.
  • Take advantage of Balance Rewards Points and Register Reward promotions to save the most amount of money.
  • On a Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale, you cannot use a coupon on the free item. In other words, you can only use a coupon on the item that you are actually paying for.
  • Walgreens does not give out rain-checks.
  • You cannot earn Balance Rewards Points in a transaction in which you are redeeming Balance Rewards Points.
  • To avoid the dreaded register beep when handing over your coupons, you should first hand over all manufacturer coupons (including register rewards) and then hand over all Walgreens coupons.
  • Walgreens will no longer be accepting coupons that exceed the price of an item.

Deal Example #1:
Extra + Juicy Fruit Gum 15 count=$0.69 each with in-ad Walgreens coupon
Buy Juicy Fruit 15 count gum
Use the in-ad Walgreens coupon
Plus, use the $0.50/1 Juicy Fruit 15 count gum Walgreens coupon found in the Monthly Savings Booklet
Final Cost=$0.19

*In this deal example, you would have used two Walgreens coupons for one item because you are permitted to do so.

Other Helpful Information
If a register reward does not print, try to see if the issue can be resolved in-store by the manager. If not, you can reach the Catalina company directly by calling 1-888-8268766. Make sure you have your receipt in hand as they will be asking for information regarding what you bought, the store ID and the date and time of your transaction.

If you are planning on purchasing a large quantity of a sale item, it would be beneficial for you and other couponers if you would call your store in advance and special order a certain amount of items. Doing this will help to ensure that you and everyone else has the opportunity to take advantage of the sale.

If you have an issue with a cashier, ask to speak to the manager. If the problem is not resolved by speaking to the manager, take note of the manager's name and the date and time of the incident and call customer service. You can contact customer service by calling 1-800-WALGREENS or 1-800- 9254733. You can also contact by email here
